Dr Julia A M Anderson

Consultant in pulmonary vascular and respiratory medicine

Julia is a Consultant Haematologist with a specialist interest in thrombosis and haemostasis, and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Edinburgh. For the past ten years she has worked at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and is Chair of the local Thrombosis Committee and is Lead Clinician for the Scottish Inherited Bleeding Disorders Network, National Services Scotland. Julia spent two years as a Research Fellow, sponsored by the British Society for Haematology, at Hamilton Civic Hospitals Research Centre, Ontario, Canada where she investigated the effect of hypersulphation of low molecular weight heparin on prothrombinase and intrinsic tenase, leading to a degree of MD in 1999.

She was later invited to a Faculty position in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University as Assistant Professor from 2004 - 2008 and worked and taught within the Division of Hematology and Thrombosis. Currently Julia is a senior examiner for the Royal College of Pathologists, is a member of the British Society for Haematology Haemostasis & Thrombosis Task Force, representing the UK Haemophilia Doctors Organisation, and is Co-Chair of the International Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis Scientific Subcommittee on the Control of Anticoagulation. She has also recently been appointed to the NICE VTE Diseases Guideline Committee.
